Evacuees expressed anger on Wednesday (September 6) over the ongoing battle between Philippine government troops and Islamic militants that has devastated parts of Marawi.
More than 800 people have been killed, most of them insurgents, since May 23 when the militants occupied large parts of the predominantly Muslim city.
Evacuee Shani Saramal, who has been staying with her three children in one of the evacuation centres in Saguiran town, about two kilometres from the city, since day one, was upset with the rebels and the firefight, which is now on its 107th day.
The fighting is the biggest security challenge in years for the mostly Catholic Philippines, even though it has a long history of Muslim separatist rebellion in Mindanao, an island of 22 million people that has been placed under martial law until the end of the year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
