There's no real Pennywise, but there's a lot of real scary things going on in the world. So, I think, I don't know if people are more into horror films right now than ever, but I feel that that's what horror films do, you go and see something that's pretend and you get scared, but it's not real life. There is not one single scene where I'm not thinking, what will...is this in the right place? Is the pace all right? Is this going to scare people? Is this funny? Is this joke in the right point of the movie or is it funny, but when you put it in that part of the movie people don't want to laugh. It's part of the job description." - Story Text:The summer box office ended on a low note, the first time since 2006 that movies brought in less than 4 billion dollars in North America. But the cast of "It," which opens on Friday (September 08), hopes that horror will bring people back to the theater.
Actors of the film walked a black carpet at the movie's Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday (September 05). Actor Bill Skarsgard, who plays children's nightmare-come-to-life character Pennywise the clown, said the "scary" state of the world will be an encouragement for movie-goers.
"I think that the world seems to be a very scary place now, more so than ever, and watching a scary movie is, you get scared, but it's safe. There's no real Pennywise, but there's a lot of real scary things going on in the world. So, I think, I don't know if people are more into horror films right now than ever, but I feel that that's what horror films do, you go and see something that's pretend and you get scared, but it's not real life. It's a good feeling," he said.
The film follows a group young outcasts who see their fears come to life in the form of a shape-shifting predator. Finn Wolfhard, who came to fame in the Netflix series "Stranger Things," plays one of those outcasts. He was also certain audiences would turn up to experience a shared scare together.
"I think there hasn't been many horror movies in the past couple of years. I think we've been in sort of like a horror movie drought in the sense of I guess good writing and good just filmmaking in general and so that's slowly coming back, I think, and I'm really excited for it all to kick back in," Wolfhard said.
As for what keeps Wolfhard up at night? It's not clowns.
"Sewer rats. Really gross. They're big and they're hairy and I don't like them," he added. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
