- Story Text: France's prime minister on Thursday (September 7) reduced the French death toll from Hurricane Irma from eight to four despite extensive destruction on the island of Saint Martin after Hurricane Irma swept through the Caribbean.
With winds of around 180 mph (290 kph), the storm lashed several small islands in the northeast Caribbean, including the French overseas territories of Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy, tearing down trees, flattening homes and causing widespread damage.
French authorities had earlier said the storm had killed eight people, though Prime Minister Edouard Philippe stressed that the figure of four could still change. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
