Summary:On April 19 1963 thousands of Jews from around the world gathered in Warsaw to mark the 20th anniversary of the liquidation of the Warsaw ghetto. The Germans established the ghetto in an area of about two square miles and kept some 400,000 Jews penned inside. During 1942 many thousands of ghetto inhabitants were taken to concentration camps. Then on April 19 1943 the Germans moved in to destroy the ghetto and slaughter everyone in it.
