- Summary: ATHENS, GREECE (NOVEMBER 24, 2000) REUTERS, ACCESS ALL 1. GENERAL VIEW OF PRESS CONFERENCE 2. (SOUNDBITE-ENGLISH) ROGGE SAYING "I am pleased to report that the co-ordination commission is happy about the progress of the organisation. We have agreed with the various plans and deadlines that have been submitted to us by the government and ATHOC. 3. JOURNALISTS WRITING 4. (SOUDNBITE-ENGLISH) ROGGE SAYING: "Let me tell you very clearly that the International Olympic Committee will stage the games in Athens and has never, I say never has had the intention to remove them to other places. We believe that everything is in place to stage excellent games, and if the realistic deadlines are respected the games will be a success. 5. VIEW OF JOURNALISTS 6. (SOUDNBITE-ENGLISH) ROGGE SAYING: "I would hate to leave Athens and have you relaxed. I want you to be scared until the last day of the Olympic games, until the closing ceremony. The best way to be successful in life is to have that little bit of scare for the task lying ahead. We are confident there will be good games in Athens but there is no time to lose, everyone must work with a lot of energy and lots of commitment. It's not an easy task organising the games is always difficult it has been difficult for Sydney also and Sydney were the best games ever. I was chairing the co-ordination commission in Sydney and I can tell you the task was also daunting. Sydney was a success, the Greeks can do it with success also but you cannot relax, because the deadlines are very tight, you cannot allow a day delay, it's a very tight deadline because of the time that has been lost in the beginning, but repeat the deadlines are realistic, they are achievable. 7. JOURNALISTS 8. (SOUNDBITE-ENGLISH) ATHOC PRESIDENT GIANNA ANGELOPOULOS SAYING: "Concrete progress has been made as you just told us, we believe Athens is back on track, but however we have four years of hard work, a marathon of preparation, and I remember Dr. Rogge you told us last August but the clock is ticking. Our clock will be ticking until the closing ceremony of the paralympic games." 9. VIEW OF CONFERENCE 10. (SOUNDBITE-ENGLISH) ROGGE SPEAKING ABOUT SECURITY: "Our own experts, who are the security chief of Barcelona games and the security chief of the Sydney games have indicated that the plans are totally reasurring and the commitment of the goverment is also very reasurring." 11. VIEW OF PRESS CONFERENCE 12. (SOUDNBITE-ENGLISH) ROGGE SPEAKING ABOUT ZATOPEK: "This is a day where we should remember a great champion Emil Zapotek that died two days ago.
