MCU (English) KYPRIANOU: "We are now in Athens, we have just come from Cyprus and we'll stay in Athens until we receive certain messages which will make it clear that it's time to go on to Belgrade. Q: Do you have assurances the three prisoners of war will be handed over to you? A: I cannot speak of assurances because I have not met yet the president of Yugoslavia. But, the mere fact that I am going there, it means that there are very very positive indications. Q: And if they are delivered to you where would you take them? A: Back to Cyprus and we'll give them there to the American authorities. It's up to the president of the United States who he decides, the Ambassador, is he going to send somebody from Washington, it's entirely up to him. Q: Is this your own initiative? A: It's my own initiative, yes. It came first as a thought, I must admit. I did not realise that it was possible to go on with it but then I finally found out after several consultations that it is possible. Q: When you speak of consultations, with whom sir? A: With Yugoslav officials, but with other personalities also in Nicosia and Belgrade who have connections with the Yugoslav government." 3.41 7.
