- Story Text: U.S. Secretary of Defence Jim Mattis received a state welcome ceremony in Hanoi on Thursday (January 25), hosted by his Vietnamese counterpart, General Ngo Xuan Lich.
Mattis held talks with Lich and is also scheduled to meet with President Tran Dai Quang and General Secretary of the Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong on the same day.
Mattis's trips are part of efforts to strengthening existing alliances and making new partners, according to the U.S. Department of Defence website.
He arrived in Vietnam after visiting Indonesia, where he watched Indonesian troops handle snakes, roll in glass, break bricks with their heads, walk on fire and much more in a rare military demonstration on Wednesday (January 24). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
