- Date: 13th June 2001
- Summary: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (RECENT) (REUTERS) SCU (SOUNDBITE) (English) ANGELINA JOLIE SAYING: "I'm flattered cause I really like her so I take that in a good way and I like that people like her and that they are supportive of her and they're rooting for her and that's the greatest feeling if you can play a character like that. I think we're both a little nuts. We both love danger and love adventure and love feeling free and then there are some great things about her. I think she's kind of playful.

- Story Text: Its the premiere everyone's been waiting for, Angelina Jolie as the flesh and blood version of video game heroine Lara Croft. She shoots, she runs, she jumps, she wears extremely tight t-shirts... and she's the talk of Hollywood.
"They both have knives under their beds". That's how director Simon West describes Lara Croft and her human equivalent, Angelina Jolie.
But no knives were out in Los Angeles last night, just lots of smiles as the cast and crew of Tomb Raider arrived at the world premiere of Tomb Raider.
Jolie's body has been plastered around Hollywood for weeks now, even in Cannes it was her performance that everyone was getting excited about, not her husband Billy Bob Thornton's star turn in the latest Coen brothers' film that was in competition, The Man Who Wasn't There.
Now's the time to see whether Jolie does justice to the legend that is Lara Croft...
The character Lara Croft was born into wealth and groomed at the most elite schools. She travels to dangerous and mysterious locales around the globe (Iceland and Cambodia were just a few of the locations used for the film) in search of rare, lost crypts and long-forgotten empires. She speaks numerous languages, is highly trained for combat and answers to no one, obeying only a desire for adventure.
But now she must face her greatest challenge yet: to find two halves of an ancient artifact buried in space and time. To possess it means ultimate power for its possessor. But to get there, she must first take on a powerful and dangerous secret society. The fate of mankind rests in the hands of one - Lara Croft, a twenty-first century heroine inspired by the most popular interactive video character in history.
The film also stars Jon Voight, Iain Glen, Noah Taylor, Daniel Craig, Leslie Phillips and Christopher Barrie.
