President Dr Azikiwe and his wife, along with the Prime Minister and other officials, drove to Lagos Racecourse for a military parade. The climax of the grand ceremony came when the President was sworn in by the Chief Justice, and this was followed by a ceremonial march past by Nigeria troops, with the President taking the salute.
