- Story Text: In a tradition that spans more than sixty years, members of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment honored fallen service members on Thursday (May 26) by placing flags at their graves at Arlington National Cemetery.
Soldiers placed small flags at more than 228,000 headstones in Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery.
The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, also known as the Old Guard, has placed flags at gravesite every year since 1948.
The custom, known as "flags in," took place four days ahead of the Memorial Day holiday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
