- Story Text: The weigh-in for the IBF (International Boxing Federation) flyweight title fight between Thailand's Amnat Ruenroeng and the Philippines' Johnreil Casimero on Tuesday (May 24) featured not one but two icons - the Great Wall of China and former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson.
Tyson, who holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles, climbed the Great Wall before attending the event.
The bout is part of a series of events to mark the IBF convention, which is taking place in China this week.
"I'm happy that I walked the (Great) Wall, I felt very grateful to be able to walk the Wall, but I don't feel good for doing it," he said.
Asked if he put on headgear during his training, he said no but agreed that it should be used.
"I was trained with no headgear, I was trained with no headgear. But everybody is different. So I believe headgear should be used. I don't want to use but I think different, more options are given. Some people get hit more than others, but I love the options," Tyson said.
Tyson was named "charity ambassador of IBF China" and donated, as a representative, 100,000 yuan ($15,260) to a skills training female school.
The bout will take place at the tennis-oriented Diamond Court in the capital city, which has a capacity of 16,000, on Wednesday (May 25).
The 33rd IBF convention, being held in an Asian country for the first time, will conclude on Friday (May 27). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
