- Story Text: Radio Free Europe journalist Khadija Ismayilova was freed from jail in Azerbaijan on Wednesday (May 25) after the country's Supreme Court amended her imprisonment to three-and-a-half years of suspended sentence.
On leaving prison she said she would continue her legal fight.
"I will of course go further to the European Court and will fight until proven un-guilty on all charges. And I will hold the Azerbaijani government responsible for keeping me a year and a half in prison and for keeping me out of my job, out of my family, out of my students. So the government will be held responsible for doing all this to me," Ismayilova said.
In September, an Azeri court sentenced Ismayilova, a prominent journalist known for exposing corruption among the ruling elite, to seven-and-a-half years in jail. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
