At the weekend, a group of Chilean enthusiastic amateur and professional footballers scored a Guinness World Record title for the most players in a soccer match with 2,357 players.
The players were also attempting to break the title for the Longest Marathon Playing Soccer, yet this record was not confirmed.
Soccer fanatics took over the Bicentenary Stadium de la Florida in Santiago over a five day duration - starting on Tuesday (May 17) - where soccer fanatics played a solid 120 hours.
Evelyn Carrera, Guinness judge, confirmed the group of Chilean footballers had achieved one of the records.
"Congratulations for the most players in a football match with 2,357 players. You have a new Guinness World Record title. Congratulations! Welcome to the Guinness World Records family. You are all officially amazing!".
Chilean professional soccer player and participant, Bryan Carrasco, said he was happy to have participated in the feat.
"Happy and thankful to Entel, for the initiative of placing Chile in the Guinness World Records in an activity which is entertaining and is always based on sport, of a lot of motivation. So I'm happy I participated. That Chile's name has been registered," Carrasco said.
Another participant, Guillermo Maripan, said he hoped the record would last in the books.
"Very nice. I hope it means something (record) and that it lasts for long time in history. Nice to take part in this," Maripan said.
Gabriela Cohen is the deputy marketing manager at Entel, a telecommunications company in Chile that organised the event. She said Chile had unofficially broken the record for longest marathon playing soccer - still, the record remains unconfirmed by the Guinness World Records.
"We are extremely happy to have achieved this record of having passed these 105 hours, which are 120, actually. And the truth is that now this milestone we wanted to achieve, has been fulfilled," said Cohen.
