Twenty minutes before landing, it disappeared, and had not sent a signal since then. At this very moment, we are in direct contact with Egyptian and Greek authorities. Information is being circulated, but nothing is confirmed. We know that that there were 56 people on board this plane, of which 15 were French. But we must remain extremely cautious before making comments and hypotheses." Here, we have a space in this hotel reserved for them, where they can stay if they wish. Other people who wish to go to Cairo, EgyptAir has arranged for their travel this afternoon. - Story Text: French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault confirmed on Thursday (May 19) there were 15 French nationals aboard a missing EgyptAir aircraft which disappeared from radar over the Mediterranean.
Officials said they believed the passenger jet went down in the sea during its flight from Paris to Cairo.
Families gathered at both cities' airports to be briefed by officials on what was known.
Speaking at the Paris airport, Ayrault said, "We must remain extremely cautious before making comments and hypotheses."
The aircraft was carrying 56 passengers - with one child and two infants among them - and 10 crew, EgyptAir said. They included 30 Egyptian and the 15 French nationals, along with citizens of 10 other countries.
Ayrault said France was ready to send military planes and boats to help in the search for the plane. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
