- Story Text: Russian President Vladimir Putin told his counterpart from Myanmar, President Htin Kyaw on Thursday (May 19), that he hoped for greater military trade between the two countries.
Putin was hosting Kyaw as part of the Russia - ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit in Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.
"I need to say straight away that the level of our trade and economic relations is not that high at the moment but, in my view, there is good potential for development of our relationship," Putin said.
"It concerns an economic component, it concerns political interaction and work in the sphere of military-technical cooperation," he added.
The Russia-ASEAN summit opens on Thursday. According to Russian media the 10 leaders of Asian states are expected to discuss bilateral ties and economic cooperation.
The summit in Sochi is the third meeting between Russia and the representatives of ASEAN member-states. The previous two were held in 2005 and 2010 in Kuala-Lumpur and Hanoi respectively. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
