- Story Text: Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah on Thursday (May 19) on the sidelines of Russia-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit in Sochi.
"We see your country as our reliable partner in the Asia-Pacific region," Putin said during the meeting.
The sultan said he appreciated cooperation with Russia on defence and culture.
"I was very happy to see the signing of two agreements. One is the MOU (memorandum of understanding) on defence and the other one is the MOC (memorandum of cooperation) on culture. There is already a visa-free (regime) agreement which will be implemented shortly and this will help tourism. There should be further development of very close and good relations between Russian and Brunei," Bolkiah said.
