- Story Text: Passengers boarding an EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo on Thursday (May 19) said they felt sad and lucky to be alive, reflecting on the news that the airline's Flight MS804 went missing after a mid-air plunge.
The EgyptAir jet, carrying 66 passengers and crew from Paris to Cairo, disappeared from radars over the Mediterranean Sea early on Thursday. French President Francois Hollande confirmed the aircraft "came down and is lost".
"You know I was supposed to travel on the other plane last night," said Basem Awad, the Egyptian National Judo Team coach, adding, "It (I) must be so lucky."
Other passengers said that, in spite of the tragedy, life had to go on.
"We just have to carry on doing what we want," said Aya Darwish, an Egyptian student.
"Being afraid, like riding planes or something like that, no, because accidents happen with cars, bikes, whatever, you know," said tourist Mohamed Shokeir.
Greek state television reported that authorities have found aircraft parts in the sea during the search for the missing aircraft. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
