- Story Text: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Laos Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith met and discussed bilateral ties on Thursday (May 19) on the sidelines of the ASEAN forum in Sochi.
"I expect that under your leadership we will very carefully use everything that was done in the past. And of course we will look into the future in our relations," Putin said during the meeting.
Sisoulith expressed hopes that between Russia and the Asian countries' union will develop.
"As the chair of ASEAN in 2016 and as coordinator of Russia-ASEAN dialogue, we (Laos) will put in every effort so that the ties between Russia and the organisation could develop," Sisoulith told Putin.
Earlier Putin held meetings with the leaders of other Asian states including Singapore and Brunei.
The summit's official website says the aggregate turnover of commodities between Russia and ASEAN members in 2014 equalled $22.5 billion.
The summit in Sochi is the third meeting between Russia and representatives of ASEAN member-states. The previous two were held in 2005 and 2010 in Kuala-Lumpur and Hanoi respectively. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
