- Story Text: Trump, Brexit and Adrian Brody's artwork were on the minds of the crop of celebrities that descended on the French Riviera town of Antibes for a charity gala on Thursday (May 19).
With the U.S. elections looming ever closer, American stars were as polarized in their opinions of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as the American general public.
"I have my thoughts but I never really discuss politics, my mama always taught me that, but yes, I do have a favourite... he knows who he is," Paris Hilton told Reuters when asked for her views on the upcoming elections.
"We're concerned, we're concerned," said Debbie Sledge when asked about Trump.
The stars were similarly coy about another political controversy - the upcoming U.K. referendum on whether to remain in or leave the European Union.
"Off the top of my head at a moment like this I can't, you know, but I am in Europe, right now, and I like being in Europe, let's put it that way," said actress Dame Helen Mirren when asked for her thoughts on Brexit.
The event - Cinema Against Aids - sees celebrities auction off and bid for various items. Going under the hammer this year includes artworks produced by actor Adrian Brody.
"Well I've been coming to AmfAR for many years and showing my support in any way that I can and painting is a rekindled passion of mine and I recently had a show in New York with a series called 'Hooked' and I've incorporated one of the theme pieces here," said Brody of his decision to donate the painting.
"He's my buddy so I might have to do that, I might have to make that happen," comedian Chris Tucker told Reuters, when asked whether he'd be putting a bid in for Brody's painting.
The Cinema Against Aids event is organised by the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmfAR) and is held just under an hour's drive away from the Cannes Film Festival. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
