- Story Text: Manchester United's teenage forward Marcus Rashford was the one surprise in England manager Roy Hodgson's provisional 26-man squad for the European Championship named on Monday (May 16).
Rashford, 18, made his United debut in February and ended the season with seven goals from 16 appearances, including two on his Premier League debut.
Hodgson selected five strikers in his provisional list, which will be reduced to 23 before the tournament in France, with Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge the others.
The England manager told a news conference at Wembley on Monday that Rashford could "knock someone off their perch" in the squad.
He said injuries meant England needed to start with more than the regulation 23, plus they play warm-up matches against Turkey, Australia and Portugal on May 22 and 27 and June 2, whilst Manchester United players have the FA Cup on May 21 and Liverpool are in the Europa League final on May 18.
Wayne Rooney remains captain and Hodgson said with such a young squad "who knows where that will lead us".
England face Russia, Slovakia and Wales in Group B of the 24-team tournament that starts on June 10 in France.
