- Story Text: Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari gave a red carpet welcome to his French counterpart in the capital Abuja on Saturday (May 14), ahead of a security summit of west African leaders.
Bagpipers marched President's Francois Hollande's motorcade into the forecourt of Buhari's villa for talks ahead of the summit, which is expected to examine strategies to fight Islamist militants Boko Haram.
Boko Haram controlled a swath of land in northeast Nigeria around the size of Belgium at the start of last year, but was pushed out by Nigerian troops, aided by soldiers from neighbouring countries.
The group has since stepped up cross-border attacks and suicide bombings against markets, bus stations and places of worship. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
