- Story Text: Brexit campaigners brought glitz and glamour to the EU referendum on Wednesday (May 11), with a movie premiere of campaign documentary Brexit - the Movie in London's Leicester Square.
The red carpet attracted models, screaming fans and eccentric outfits adorned with union jacks as politicians tried to inject some glamour into politics.
"The fact that this is privately funded. All the government stuff, all this literature they are pouring through our doors. None of it's working. This is a private initiative, done by somebody who I think has made a film that will really appeal to the 5 million men and women running small businesses in this country saying, let's really just lift the shackles of European government off their backs and the fact that we are doing this here at the Odeon Leicester Square, it's a bit of fun too," said United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage.
Farage enjoyed playing to the audience gathered in the West End, urging them to chant "Brexit" and vote out on June 23.
"We are pretty clear that we are now all working together and we're actually more united than the other side so there are 43 days to go, I am now more bullish about Brexit than I've been at any point in this campaign," he told Reuters.
But, the movie premiere was missing the leave campaign's biggest star.
Former mayor of London Boris Johnson had spent the day campaigning in Cornwall.
Conservative MP David Davis said the campaign "didn't need stars."
"This is about a victory of an idea and that star is here tonight," he added.
'Brexit: The Movie' is written and directed by film-maker Martin Durkin.
The film argues why Britain should leave the bloc, including leading voices from the out campaign, journalists and comedians.
Its budget is funded entirely by a campaign on Kickstarter according to the leave campaign.
The movie is available to watch online during the campaign period. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
