- Story Text: The European Parliament on Wednesday (May 11) approved a new EU law to strengthen Europol in the fight against terrorism and organised crime, including violent online extremist activities.
Europol is the European Union's law enforcement agency and its new powers come with strong data protection safeguards and democratic oversight tools.
According to the regulation, Europol's Internet Referral Unit will identify and refer relevant online content towards concerned internet service providers. It will also support EU governments in operational and strategic analysis and allow the EU's judicial cooperation agency (Eurojust) to access to information stored by Europol. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
