CU Contract for surrogate process GVs Hospital of recent surrogate birth (2 shots) GV House of Jim and Fay, parents of child born in surrogate deal MS Parents with children (2 shots) SCU Fay:- "The baby was born and we held him in our arms the baby was only forty five minutes old the first time we held him. I mean he was mine - the bonding was there, it didn't have to be growing in my stomach, in my belly, to be mine. He was my baby and a boy. I'm like a lioness now, nobody better try and take away my baby from me." SCU Mr Derek Kirby-Johnson, lawyer speaking: "I think it is satisfactory in every possible way. The judge has made it perfectly clear he dealt with the matter fully, speedily and he feels to full satisfaction and I can agree with it and I'm delighted he has done what he has done." TRANSCRIPT: REPORTER:- "What's been the reaction of the parents who now have the baby?" Kirby-Johnson:- "Well of course they're obviously delighted they wanted very much to have this baby and they are totally thrilled and totally happy." Reporter:- "It must have been a difficult three or four weeks?" Kirby-Johnson: "Well it was a very difficult week last week without doubt." Reporter:- "There was one particularly novel moment when you were taking the baby from hospital in Barnet - How did you do that?" Kirby-Johnson:- "Well I have to confess that some device had to be arranged so that the press would not see where we were taking the baby to. So I took my wife who is expecting a baby into the maternity hospital so we attracted no attention going in, but I nearly made a good escape except somebody took one picture which identified us apart from that we got away and made the delivery without anybody discovering how or where." Reporter:- "Do you think this judgment has helped at all in the difficult subject to surrogate parentage?" Kirby-Johnson:- "It has made one thing clear. The judge has said he considers wardship proceedings are the appropriate method of dealing with this in England and that if any future cases should occur that the baby should be made a ward of court immediately so that the High Court can decide how it can best be dealt with." GVs outside Law Courts SCU Harriet Blankfeld:- "I think public comment, public opinion, public criticism has made the High Court decide where the baby belongs was with the natural parents to begin with and a judge of compassion, a judge who obviously searched his soul and looked at where would the baby be best suited, not for the circumstances of its birth, not for the commercialism, not for the media but for the baby itself."
