- Story Text: Justin Timberlake says working on upcoming animation 'Trolls' became ''like an embarrassment of riches'' as he was able to combine his acting and music skills as well as go to work everyday at a location close to his family.
The film, set for release in November, sees Timberlake playing cynical troll Branch, an outsider in an overly happy world of trolls. The actor also served as executive producer on the film's soundtrack, mixing original compositions with mashups of classics songs.
'Trolls', which is still in post production, had its launch at the Cannes Film Festival, and speaking to Reuters on Thursday (May 12) Timberlake said he's always wanted to do a project like this: ''I have always wanted to work on a soundtrack after getting to explore acting in film and having done a ton of music over the years, at some point wanting to combine those was always something that I wanted to do and this became like an embarrassment of riches because you're actually in the movie as well you're playing you know one of the supporting role to the lead in the movie and getting to do all the music. It's like - sign me up!''
Timberlake was also happy that the Dreamworks movie was shot close to his home in LA, meaning it was easy for him to work and see his family.
Actress Anna Kendrick stars alongside Timberlake as super troll Princess Poppy. She explained that doing animation is fun and in someways easier than live action: ''You can like roll in in your pyjamas and that's a bonus, but it is really freeing because you just have as much time as you want - it never rains - you're never outside and you go 'oh crap you know we gotta do this scene in like 30 minutes because it's about to start raining' and you do get to like accomplish everything you want to because you're in this like hermetically sealed environment.'
When asked about the upcoming U.S. elections, Timberlake joked and made reference to his new single 'Can't Stop The Feeling', which features on the 'Trolls' soundtrack - saying: ''My contribution to the upcoming elections is 'Can't Stop The Feeling'."
When pushed further on his stance he said he didn't want to tell anyone who to vote for: ''I'm not gonna, I don't think I am gonna use my sort of influence to tell people what to do but I am gonna vote you know.''
This weekend Timberlake will perform his new track at the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden.
