The first count is of course the count of the transmitted results. We source our data from the COMELEC server which is actually here in the PPRCV compound. We are already at around 92 percent of all the VCMs (vote counting machine) that have transmitted. A lot of people are always asking "will we reach 100 percent?". No we won't because we already know that some of the precincts went manual so they won't be transmitted because they went manual." They are going to proclaim based on the BOC (Board of Canvassers) results so that is actually going to be convened on May 23. So we have to wait for COMELEC's proclamation." - Story Text: Election officials in the Philippines continued the task of gathering and counting votes on Tuesday (May 10), a day after Filipinos went to the polls to elect a new president.
A rolling ballot count reported by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) - an election commission-accredited watchdog - showed by mid morning that mayor Rodrigo Duterte had almost 39 percent of votes cast. He was more than 6 million votes ahead of his nearest rival, with 90 percent of votes having been counted.
"There are two counts that are going on in the PPRCV," explained PPCRV spokesperson Ana de Villa Singson. "The first count is of course the count of the transmitted results. We source our data from the COMELEC server which is actually here in the PPRCV compound. We are already at around 92 percent of all the VCMs (vote counting machine) that have transmitted. A lot of people are always asking "will we reach 100 percent?". No we won't because we already know that some of the precincts went manual so they won't be transmitted because they went manual."
The PPCRV count is not official but presidential candidate Grace Poe's decision to concede defeat added weight to Duterte's presumed victory.
Officials results could take several days, if not weeks, to be announced, explained de Villa-Singson.
"They are not going to proclaim based on the transmissions. They are going to proclaim based on the BOC (Board of Canvassers) results so that is actually going to be convened on May 23. So we have to wait for COMELEC's proclamation," she said.
At least 11 people were killed in violence before voting started, but otherwise the election was mostly smooth. Voters also cast ballots for the vice president, 300 lawmakers and about 18,000 local government officials. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
