Summary:Disaster at sea - it struck the Greek liner Lakonia on December 22 1963. With 650 passengers and a crew of 300, the ship was cruising near Madeira when it caught fire. Flames swept the entire ship, killing 80 passengers and 30 crewmen. Ships and naval vessels rushed to help, but found the Lakonia next morning completely gutted.
