The Egyptian president will also visit Romania, France and Italy before returning home. The purpose of the tour has been to explain his position on the negotiations with Israel and to try and win support for that standpoint. Meanwhile the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs, Mr Alfred Atherton, is about to start a new round of shuttle diplomacy to try and get the peace talks resumed.
