- Story Text: Russia's Olympic Committee revealed their official kit for the Rio 2016 Olympics games in Moscow on Monday (April 25) despite their athletics federation still facing suspension from the Games.
With the Games beginning on the 5th August in Brazil, Russia revealed their kit at the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow with various athletes showing off the kit.
Russian Olympic Chief, Alexander Zhukov did not speak of the potential suspension but only of his hope for the Games and the success he hopes the kit will bring.
"Indeed the Russian avant-garde is one of the brightest and most famous chapters in the history of Russian visual art. But the most important thing is it is avant-garde. In such uniform one cannot fall behind, you should definitely be ahead," Zhukov said. "What kind of avant-garde is it if the team does not take the lead? So, of course, we have strong hopes that our athletes will not only look good, but that they will also have a successful performance in Rio, and that this uniform will bring them success."
Former Olympic figure skating champion Tatiana Navka, who last year married Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, spoke of her love for the new kit.
"The kit is wonderful, comfortable, beautiful and elegant. I feel very feminine in it, like a beautiful sportswoman. It is indeed very comfortable," she said.
Following Russia's suspension by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) last November, the IAAF will hear reports from its taskforce into Russia's anti-doping progress at its council meeting in Vienna on 17 June. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
