- Story Text:Saudi Arabia's King Khalid made his first visit to Bahrain on Tuesday (23 March) during his 10-day tour of Gulf states.
He was met at the airport by the Emir of Bahrain, Sheikh Isa, and his two brothers, the Bahraini Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohamed.
This is king Khalid's first Gulf tour since he ascended to the throne after the assassination of his brother King Faisal a year ago.
After arriving in Bahrain, King Khalid relaxed at lunch then paid a formal call on Sheikh Isa.
His first public engagement came when he opened a new ring road west of the capital, Maname.
He later discussed bilateral and regional, political and economic issues with Sheikh Isa. A spokesman said the two leaders agreed on all the issues they talked about.
Saudi Arabia has given Bahrain generous financial support, especially in health and education projects.
There are plans to build a causeway, with Saudi Arabian finance, to link the two countries across 24 miles (40 kms) of sea.
King Khalid on Thursday (25 March) will fly to Qatar, the next stop in his tour.
