Summary:For the ceremonies marking the completion of the first stages of the Aswan dam project in May, President Nasser had Mr. Khrushchev as his guest, and they travelled up the Nile by launch to see the last gap closed in the barrier across the river's existing channel. Then Mr. Khrushchev pressed a button to blast away the barrier from the new channel. The River Nile begins to pour into its new channel. Here it will drive a massive hydro-electric station.
