- Title: ISRAEL: ISRAELI CHIEF OF STAFF CLAIMS RUSSIANS ARE MANNING EGYPTIAN MISSILE BATTERIES.
- Date: 6th July 1970
- Summary: PRESS OFFICE INTERIOR: CHIEF OF STAFF HAYIM BAR LEV SPEAKING. TRANSCRIPT: HAIM BAR LEV: "We feel the Russian hand in the field of planning, and in the field of directing and operating the whole concentration of battle. And we see on the map the general area where all these batteries have been (GARBLED), have been are in the red-marked area, approximately half-way between the Suez canal and Cairo. Some of our planes have been followed by SAM-2 missiles actually above the Suez canal, and on one occasion a missile that had been self-destroyed, some parts of it fell on our side of the Suez canal. By this I mean to bring to your attention that some of these batteries, their far-range, is approximately on the Suez canal. As far as the SAM-3 missiles are concerned, our pilots think that two missiles which appeared to them to be SAM-3 missiles, have been fired in one of these (GARBLED). They did not hit our planes, but according to the witness of our pilots, they think that two of the missiles that have been fired at them were not the same two but were missiles of the type of SAM-3."
