- Summary: 1. 20 years ago, the Soviet troops reached the line of the Danube, then surrounded the Fascist troops. The liberation of Budapest began. 2. The Soviet troops set up the table with the inscription: Budapest. 3. The Soviet commander-in-chief, marshal Malinovski. 4. The soldiers of the Red Army advanced in a heroic, self-sacrificing fight. 5. The German and Hungarian troops defended themselves stubbornly, the Hitlerist leaders wanted to stop here the Soviet troops. But the Soviet troops spared the town and its inhabitants, therefore the battle went on from street to street and house to house. 6. Captain Steinmetz, the Soviet negotiator, whom the Fascists killed treacherously. 7. Among the prisoners of war there were also Hungarian units which faught with the Fascists. 8. On January 18, 1945. the Pest-side of the city became free. The Soviet troops were approaching gradually the line of the Danube. 9. They wanted to strengthen the enclosed Fascist troops by parachuting ammunition, but it got already into the hands of the Soviet troops. 10. Picture of the Castle of Buda, the Nazi headquarters and last stronghold. 11. On February 13, with the liberation of Buda - the whole Capital became free. 12. Captive German generals, officers and men. 13. Several bridges of Budapest have been blasted by the Nazis, who cut in this way the town apart. 14. On February 13, 1945, the din of battle subsided. The city was in ruins in the wake of the mad Fascist destruction. 15. Factories in ruins. 16. The people emerged out of the cellars.... 17. The first tram moved of at the Moscow square.
