  • Story Text:Men wearing red lipstick and posters of wolves following women, two very different ways that France is trying to combat sexual harassment.
    "Mettez du rouge" is a campaign aimed at raising awareness among men about statistics around sexual assault on women and to include them in the discussion.
    Ending on March 8th, International Women's Day, the month-long event saw men post pictures of themselves wearing red lipstick to social media with the hashtags #MettezduRouge, #YesWeCare and #AskMoreOfHim alongside a link to statistics on sexual violence.
    The campaign's founder Alice Lepers said she hopes it will encourage them to speak out against rape and sexual violence.
    RATP, the public transport operator in Paris, also launched a campaign to reduce sexual harassment, placing posters throughout the metro calling on victims or witnesses to alert authorities to any form of sexual misconduct.
    Close to 11,000 posters have been rolled out, depicting women being intimidated by predators; a wolf, a bear, and a shark. The posters also display information about a helpline that can reached by call or text message to help those who suffer from assault.
    According to a study by FNAUT (National Federation of transport users) 87 percent of female public transport users in France have been subject to harassment.
