- Title: Canada: Separatists Threaten Royal Visit
- Date: 1st October 1964
- Summary: Security was tight for the visit of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Canada in October because of threats from extremists agitating for a separate French Canadian State. A strict watch was kept, and crowds kept far away from the Royal Party - But the Queen's reception at Charlottetown on Prince Edward island was a warm and friendly one. In Quebec, centre of the French Canadian Separatist movement, the mood was different. Only a small crowd, mostly standing silent, saw the Queen drive to the Parliament Building. Here came the first separatist demonstrations - staged by a group of chanting students. There was another at the Citadel, where the Queen went to review an army parade. But the demonstrators were quickly hustled away by the police. NOTE: Date is approximate. This clip may contain footage from multiple events; exact date or dates may be unknown.
