The parents of three girls try to block their daughters' plans to have sex on their Prom night with comedic consequences in "Blockers".
The new comedy movie stars Leslie Mann, John Cena and Ike Barinholtz as Lisa, Mitchell and Hunter, who have watched their daughters become best friends and grow up together.
On their prom night they accidentally see a social media exchange that reveals a sex pact made by their daughters who are determined to lose their virginity after the school dance.
Mann, who has two daughters with her husband Judd Apatow, Maude and Iris Apatow, said the movie hit close to home. She said she wanted to show the difficulties mothers have in letting go and portray that stage of her life in a "very truthful" way.
The actress, star of comedies including "The Other Woman" and "This Is 40", admitted that she tracked her daughters' movements with the Find My Friends app.
"Oh yeah I do that, I do that. Is that strange? I think that's so normal," she said.
"It's so scary to think of your children out in the world and you have no clue. Like what if something happened, you would never know. And so if you have them on Find My Friends, this app, which is amazing, you can just like track them wherever they are all day long," she said.
WWE star John Cena, who recently lent his voice to the animated movie "Ferdinand", said he was enjoying taking on more acting roles.
The wrestler and actor, who turns 41 in April, said getting his head around teen language and emojis was a challenge.
"So, like, I officially am not cool. So that's that's exactly what I found out that I am just unplugged from from what the hell is going on. If I'm into something it's already done," he said.
The film stars Kathryn Newton, Ramona Young and Geraldine Viswanathan in the roles of the confident young women and is directed by Kay Cannon who makes her directorial debut with "Blockers".
Cannon, who wrote the Pitch Perfect movies, is one of a handful of women who directed a big-studio film in the past year.
"It felt like a big deal when I was starting to direct, while I was directing and it feels like a big deal now. Like I'm excited and I was nervous," she said.
Cena praised the movie for being entertaining and sending a "good message".
"This is a female directed film about strong female driven topics. The young actresses play their roles so tremendous that it sends such a powerful message, there are powerful from moments in the film," he said.
"Blockers" is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on March 30 and the United States on April 6. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
