Veteran singer Lulu hasn't been on stage in London's West End for over 30 years - so it's no surprise she was nervous before her new role in 1930s-set musical '42nd Street'.
The 69-year-old singer, who shot to fame in the 1960s, told Reuters she developed a nervous cough during rehearsals for the show, but soon got over it due to "the support of really good people."
In '42nd Street', she plays Dorothy Brock, a former musical actor whose star has faded. Admitting she's not a great fan of musicals, Lulu says she was won over by the show and the role.
While she is world famous due, in part, to her hit songs 'Shout' and Eurovision-winning 'Boom Bang-a-Bang', Lulu says doesn't think about having a particular legacy. Instead, she hopes her grandchildren will be proud of her - and when asked what advice she would give to young people hoping to emulate her success, she says "do the best you can do and be the best person you can be."
'42nd Street' is currently booking at Theatre Royal on London's Drury Lane until October. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
