- Story Text:An album containing new songs by late Palestinian singer Rim Banna was released in Jerusalem on Wednesday (April 25), and many of the attendees were teary-eyed and emotional.
Banna's mother who addressed the audience, did break into tears on the sideline of the release which comes just one month after the singer's death.
Banna passed away on March 24 at the age of 51 after battling breast cancer for nearly a decade.
She defined herself as an activist and Palestinian rights were a frequent theme in her music.
The album was recorded two months before her death and contains 15 songs, of which Banna wrote the lyrics for 14.
Banna worked on the album while she was ill and "the lyrics came out of a place of pain," her mother Zahira Sabbagh said.
But many believe that Banna's passing will not stop her message from travelling and that she will continue to reach people from beyond the grave.
"Her death is not the end. In my opinion, it is a new beginning for Rim's message," said Yara Qarawani, who attended the album release.
The album is titled "Voice of Resistance" and is slated to be released in Nazareth, where Banna was born in 1966.
Over the years, Banna herself became a symbol of Palestinian resistance and her death was heavily mourned by a wide audience base from across the Middle East.
The album will also be released in Ramallah, Amman and Cairo in the coming few days, as well as in other cities that have yet to be announced. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
