- Story Text: Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo visited Tokyo on Monday (February 29) to inspect the site of the future Olympic Village for the 2020 Games as she looks to gather information for her bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics in the French capital.
Accompanied by Governor of Tokyo, Yoichi Masuzoe, Hidalgo and President of Ile-de-France Region Valerie Pecresse visited the Harumi seafront district, which is now under construction to accommodate athletes as the Olympic Village for the 2020 Games.
After the site inspection Hidalgo said she wanted to refer to the redevelopment in the Harumi area for the 2024 Olympic Village in L'Ile-Saint.
"Many things we saw today are quite useful for us. I decided to make an inspection today as I would like to learn what and how to prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games aiming at hosting the 2024 Olympic Games," she said.
Masuzoe supported Paris' bid for the 2024 Games.
"Paris and Tokyo are sister cities so I would like to support Paris to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games following Tokyo," he said.
The race to stage the 2024 Olympic Games is now officially underway, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) having received the four candidature files of Paris, Budapest, Rome and Los Angeles.
Paris last hosted the Games in 1924 having lost out to Barcelona (1992), Beijing (2008) and London (2012). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
