- Date: 12th October 2009
- Summary: MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA (OCTOBER 11, 2009) (ANI) (CONTAINS FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY) INDIAN PRIME MINISTER MANMOHAN SINGH WITH HIS AIDES ARRIVING TO ADDRESS PRESS CONFERENCE AND TAKING SEATS LONG VIEW OF NEWS CONFERENCE MEDIA PERSONS SITTING INDIAN PRIME MINISTER MANMOHAN SINGH SPEAKING TO THE MEDIA PERSONS CUTAWAY OF A CAMERA OPERATOR (SOUNDBITE) (Hindi/English) MANMOHAN SINGH, INDIAN PRIME MINISTER, SAYING "This is utterly wrong. India has no role in spreading terrorism in Pakistan or in any other neighbouring country. We are not in that business and the people and government of Pakistan jolly well know that this accusation is a false accusation." MANMOHAN SINGH SITTING (SOUNDBITE) (English) MANMOHAN SINGH, INDIAN PRIME MINISTER, SAYING: "There has been some progress. Pakistan had pressure from us and international community. For the first time Pakistan agreed that terrorism which has become a problem now that had its origin in Pakistan that the conspiracy leading to the tragedy of Mumbai was hatched in Pakistan, that the citizens of Pakistan are involved. Pakistan never before agreed to any such preposition. They have always maintained that they have nothing to do and their people are not involved. So there is some progress. We would like that they should carry this progress further. They should investigate all those who are involved including Hafiz Saeed. Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, another organisation and that there should be a fair trial which will result in proper punishment being given (to them)." CUTAWAY OF A CAMERA OPERATOR (SOUNDBITE) (English) MANMOHAN SINGH, INDIAN PRIME MINISTER, SAYING: "I have always maintained that naxalism is the greatest internal security threat to our country. Government with the help and active assistance of the state governments is taking all possible measures to deal with this menace. I sincerely hope that in days and months to come, you will see some positive developments in this regard. I have often said that the growth of naxalism particularly in central India also obliges us to look at what is it that causes a sense of alienation among certain sections of the community particularly the tribal community. Therefore, these are probably indicative of deficiencies of the pace of development. We also like to address that aspect of the problem but law and order enforcement is the primary responsibility of every civilised citizen."
