- Story Text:Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic broke down in tears at a news conference on Tuesday after being asked about his late friend and former team mate, Hrvoje Custic.
Subasic saved three penalties in the shootout victory against Denmark in the World Cup Round of 16 and he dedicated the victory to his late friend, revealing the t-shirt with Custic's photo on underneath his jersey.
Custic, Subasic's former team mate at NK Zadar, tragically passed away in 2008 at the age of 24 after hitting his head on a railing and the goalkeeper always wears a vest in memory of him.
When asked at the news conference in Sochi why he always wears the shirt, Subasic broke down in tears and could take no further questions.
Earlier at the news conference, Subasic spoke about Croatia's next match - their World Cup quarter-final against tournament hosts Russia.
Subasic believes that with the support of a partisan crowd, Russia will play above themselves but Zlatko Dalic's men will have the answers ready for the challenge posed by the hosts.
Having won all of their Group D games, Croatia beat Denmark in a shootout in Saturday's quarter-final in Sochi on the Black Sea coast. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
