- Story Text: The once bustling tourist town of Senggigi on Indonesia's resort island of Lombok has been left empty in the wake of a powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake.
Thousands of tourists have fled the island fearing further quakes, some on extra flights provided by airlines and others on ferries to Bali.
For business owners left behind, the road ahead looks bleak. Many hotels, bars, shops and restaurants have closed their doors, with damaged ceilings and walls and no one to serve.
"I don't expect anything to improve before next year frankly, it's that bad," said restaurant owner Howard Singleton.
The death toll from Sunday's (August 5) quake rose to 131 on Wednesday (August 8) as rescuers found more people crushed under collapsed buildings, though some still held out hope of finding survivors. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
