Summary:In May 1965 Rhodesia staged one of the most spectacular water-falls ever seen when the flood-gates of the giant Kariba Dam were opened for the first time, releasing a torrent of water into the Zambesi gorge below. Five of the six flood-gates were opened, releasing the waters of the man-made Lake Kariba. For more than twelve hours, water roared through the flood-gates at a rate of one-and-a-half million gallons a second. NOTE: Date is approximate.
