Summary:The University of Lagos was re-opened on June 9 1965 after three months of closure following student riots. The cause of the rioting was the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, Dr. S.O. Biobaku. But the new Vice-Chancellor's speech was howled down by the students and as he left the campus, he was attacked and stabbed by a student. Dr. Biobaku recovered, but the student protest continued for several days.
