Summary:Riots broke out in South Korean capital Seoul on June 29 1965, following the ratification of a peace treaty normalising relations between Japan and South Korea after nearly fifty years of discord and war. Thousands of students poured into the capital to denounce Japan. Police used tear gas to quell the riots, but demonstrators made bonfires of Japanese goods and called for a boycott of imports from Japan.
