Summary:Adlai Ewing Stevenson, patrician figure of American politics in the 1950's and 60's died on July 14 1965. On a visit to London he collapsed in the street near the American Embassy. He was aged 65. He twice fought for the Presidency, in 1952 and 1956. His opponent on both occasions was Dwight Eisenhower a man over whom he towered intellectually, but to whom he lost on both occasions.
