Summary:A September election in West Germany swept Dr. Erhard's Christian Democrats home to a big victory over Herr Willy Brandt's Social Democrats. The election was mostly fought on domestic issues. Herr Brandt had campaigned largely on the need for a change after 16 years of Christian Democrat Government; Dr Erhard on his responsibility for West Germany's economic recovery. In October, the Bundestag voted Dr. Erhard back as Chancellor with a large majority.
