- Story Text:Britain's "Peter Pan of Pop," Cliff Richard, received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday (October 25) after 37 years in the music industry. Although Sir Cliff Richard has visited the Queen many times before he said today's visit was one of his greatest moments. The star chuckled after opening the medal box to find it inscribed "Knight Bachelor." He has never shaken off the tag "Bachelor Boy" after an early hit of the same name. The 55-year-old singer, the only artist to have chart-topping hits in five different decades was clearly elated and dismissed reports that he had been thinking of quitting after his run of 115 hits, including 13 Number Ones in the U.K. The Queen thanked him for the work he has done in entertainment and for charity after touching him ceremonially with her a sword. Sir Cliff's knighthood was awarded in the Queen's Birthday Honours list "for charitable services." "What I am proud of is that I have received this for nothing to do with politics, commerce, or even rock and roll. Like many in showbusiness I have worked for many charities over the years - it is something really worthwhile," he said.
