- Story Text:The stars of new Pakistani movie "Parwaaz Hai Junoon" hope the film will help shake off negative stereotypes about their country.
The film follows a young female cadet who battles against preconceived notions about gender roles to become a fighter pilot.
Pakistani star Hamza Ali Abbasi plays a leading role in the film as a fellow fighter pilot and told Reuters he hoped the movie would fight misinformed cliches.
"There are a lot of misconceptions about Pakistan. Unfortunately, the kind of environment we live in the world, negative things about Pakistan are celebrated mainly because our introduction to the world has been through news channels. Unlike our neighbours, let's say, India, their introduction to the world is through their films, through Bollywood, it's the biggest PR success story in the world. Our PR failure has been that we have not been able to tell the world our narrative, and this film is part of that effort," he said.
The movie, produced by female filmmaker Momina Duraid, was made with the close co-operation of the Pakistani air force.
"There's girls in the air force, there's independent women, we are making movies, I mean you know, we are making films about the air force, and I think it's doing a big service to the country," added actor Ahad Raza Mir.
The film is released worldwide on August 24, 2018. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
