- Story Text:For the second time in a week, the United Arab Emirates broke a Guinness record, this time with the world's largest perfume bottle.
On Tuesday (November 24) an Abu Dhabi company unveiled the largest perfume bottle in the world.
The giant sized bottle can hold 500 litres, smashing the previous record of 150 litres.
"Today, we are launching the largest perfume bottle in the world into the Guinness World records. This bottle carries the name '1971', which represents the (year) the United Arab Emirates was established in 1971," said CEO of Jealous Gallery, Abdul Jabbar al Harithi.
He said the whole idea started with a wager, and the idea came to him when he was driving by the world's tallest buildings.
"It started off as a challenge. We were with clients and we were presenting to them our (perfume) products. But they said that Emirati products are not very popular (in the market) at this time, so I challenged them and said that God willing, Emirati products will reach the whole world, and that the whole world will hear of it. And that's where the idea came from," he said.
To qualify, the bottle had to be an exact replica of an already existing perfume that is available in the market and must be made from the same materials.
The previous record was set in Belarus in January and the bottle was 150 litres. The new record is 500 litres, according to Guinness officials.
"These guys today had to be beat that record, but they also had to meet the same set of guidelines we set for every record. And basically these guidelines have been met, and they came in with 500 litres. So they've beaten the last record. They are now the new record holders at 500 litres," said Guinness representative Pravin Patel.
Last week a group of Dubai based companies broke the world record for the longest factory-manufactured scarf. The scarf measured 1971 meters and was also made to commemorate the UAE's 44th National Day. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
